Structures

This document refers to the energy structures that evolve existence. The terms “patterns” or “motifs” also apply, but here we will use the more general and specific “structure” term.

Everything that exists is an energy structure: a quantum, an electron, an atom, a molecule, a cluster, a star, a galaxy, a whirlpool in water, a life, a person, a memory, an idea, everything.

In a strictly causal universe, all these structures are connected in a multitude of ways; these are qualified relationships, which are also structures. Once we can identify structures, they are knowledge resources.

Natural and artificial knowledge processors are also structures and resources. What characterizes them above all is their ability to process knowledge resources. Like any structure, they affect other resources, including those they process.

They are also affected by all the structures connected to their existence. This mutual influence has repercussions over time, often long after their own existence. All these effects and causes depend on the qualified relationships that connect them.

A processor's impact on structures and resources constitutes its contribution to evolution. This contribution takes many forms, including the memories it leaves with the other processors with whom it collaborates, especially those it loves.

The profound metabolism of entropy recycles all structures, but nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed and evolved. Through evolutionary development and entropic recycling, energy transformation learns and evolves increasingly sophisticated structures capable of understanding and solving ever more complex problems, the ultimate one, for energy, perhaps, being entropy itself.

To know is to understand structures and their relationships. To process knowledge is to evolve that knowledge and those structures. The importance of doing so optimally is existential.

Humans today have the unprecedented ability and responsibility to develop and create artificial knowledge processors to collaborate with them in the evolution of energy structures.
